More blobs of goop

September 23, 2010 by dberenstein

I thought I would share another view of the data I’m analyzing

3D visualization

This 3D graph will not make it to a paper in this form. For that I have other plots and graphs that paint a much better picture of what is going on. However, I just like the organic look of it. It has dimples and reminds me of a seed of some sort. Enjoy.

Looks like a tri-lobal pear seen from the bottom (as opposed to the regular uni-lobal pear).

Everyone needs to learn about the LineSmoothing property for plots in Matlab, although your plot bears similarities to Mathematica output.

    Still,

As a grad student, I can’t stop myself from using that in all my plots. It’s just so much prettier!!!

      Hi CoffeeCup:

Indeed, it is mathematica output. It can be improved in quality by increasing the Maxrecursion variable. But then it takes a lot longer to compute.

Make it brown to make it look even more biological.

The dimple is interesting. Perhaps a strange attractor?

Hey Prof Berenstein, I see that you are acknowledged at the end of the latest Bousso paper. Perhaps you’d like to clarify what you wrote a little while ago ["There are entire libraries of coffee table conversations about the multiverse. A lot of them explore the what if and are usually fun over a couple of drinks. When its done professionally however…"]
    :-)

      Dear Raphael:

Evidence would suggest I drink a lot of coffee… ;)

…. or perhaps some other fluid? :-)
I hear that Colombian rum is rather good.
