This is probably the last post of the year, here at the Shores of the Dirac sea. So here is what happened.
We’ve been up and running for four months. This is the 74th post so far (not too bad for a start). Now that the initial hoopla is gone, we are at about views per day. I’m not sure if that is good or bad. The busiest day so far was the day when there was worldwide panic that the end of the world was due: the turning on the LHC was all the rage and since the world did not end, that was that.
The most visited post was “Emergent gravity“, showing that there is a lot of interest in areas of physics where we don’t yet know the rules. This was closely followed by the much lighter “The value of a spherical cow“, where controversy was nowhere to be seen.
But what do these numbers mean however? For the time being, that we are here to stay for a while longer
.
Happy new year everyone. May the new year be fulfilling and full of joy.

I think the numbers should be taken with a bucket of salt. Many readers, especially once they start reading regularly, access us via RSS feeds, in which case they are not registered in those numbers. For individual posts the number is very strongly correlated with the existence of the “read more” fold. It is also probably not that important, I would find it very enjoyable to have a small but high quality readership.
(Incidentally, quantum gravity is indeed interesting because the rules are not yet clear. I don’t think this necessarily equates with being “controversial”, a term I have no respect for – it takes no effort or talent to be controversial. I’m hoping nobody comes here to seek that particular thrill).
Hi Moshe:
The controversy is most usually in the comments, not the post.
By the way, how big of a bucket of salt? One gallon? Five gallons? Or will a liter do?
Happy New Year to you and yours. I find your blog one of the more interesting and well written ones to be found. I visit at least once a day and sometimes twice. Please keep up the good work. Good writing and interesting content are not exactly thick upon the landscape in this field.
Happy New Year guys and to all the readers. This a good blog indeed. I hope you’ll keep up.
